He Healed Them All

December 19, 2018

A few months back, I was visiting a church, and the pastor was talking about the recent sickness and death of a member of their church community. He talked about how brave they were and what an example they were to everyone. Then, he said something that broke my heart. He said that we don’t know why God allows sickness and death to come on people. That perhaps it is to teach them, or the rest of us, something as we witness their suffering and death.

It broke my heart because this pastor is a biblical scholar, but he used the same logic or reasoning that the unsaved world uses to explain death and suffering. To say we don’t know why God lets good people suffer and die young is to admit we don’t know God. We can find the answer if we search the Scriptures for it.

In Genesis 1:26-28, we read that God created man in His own image and told him to have dominion over everything on the earth. God gave man the rights and responsibility to rule over the earth. God does not give something to man and then take it back. He has too much integrity for that. So from Day #6, God created man and allowed him to rule the earth realm however he (man) saw fit. Unfortunately, man decided to hand his dominion over the Satan, which we read about in Chapter 3 of Genesis.

So it is not accurate to ask why God allows sickness and death, because God doesn’t have authority on the earth. He gave it fully and completely over to man at the very beginning. The more accurate question is why does man allow sickness and death on the earth? I don’t think it was Adam’s original intent to unleash sickness and disease on the human race, but that is what happened when he handed dominion over to Satan. Jesus described Satan as the thief in John 10:10. He said: The thief comes but to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. Satan is the author of death and destruction. Jesus is the Author of Life. Let’s not confuse the two.

The Gospels clearly describe Jesus as a healer. Nowhere does it say in the Gospels that Jesus let someone continue to be sick or to die to teach them a lesson. He healed everyone who came to Him and asked for healing. Matthew 12:15 says Jesus healed them all. That was his purpose and intent when He walked the earth, and it is still His intent today. We know this because Hebrews 13:8 says that Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever.

God does not judge us and punish us with sickness. Jesus bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases according to Isaiah 53:4. If Jesus suffered to take disease away, then He most certainly will not nullify His own sacrifice by putting sickness back on us. To suggest that He would do this is to disrespect what He did on the cross. To access the healing that Jesus bought for you, you are going to have to first be saved. Jesus bought our dominion back from Satan and gave that dominion to everyone who would be saved. The next thing you will need to do is get into the Bible and learn what your rights and privileges are. You will need to build your faith.

In her book Healing of the Heart, Kerri Molzen shares what she found in the Bible and talks about the specific scriptures she used to take back her dominion over her own body. She took the Word of God like a medicine and so can you. The webpage below is a great resource for Scriptures that describe God’s intentions for your healing. I use this list every day. Check it out!
