Choose Joy - Guest Post by Kerri Molzen

January 18, 2019

Happy New Year! What a great year this will be. Julie has mentioned the word the Lord gave our pastors for 2019 is the year of "Plenty, Overflow, and Growth." See her blog post “Reconnect with the Word” (01/13/2019) for the complete word of the Lord.

I have been meditating on that word and realizing that this plenty, overflow, and growth consist of every area of your life, including health. As you grow your knowledge in the word about health, you will have plenty and an overflow of health. As you speak words of life over your body, you will have plenty and an overflow of health. Praise God! I would like to share with you what I have been focusing on at the beginning of this year.

At the end of 2018, my mom went home to be with the Lord. I have been adjusting to not being able to talk to her on the phone every day, which is not the easiest sometimes, and I do miss her dearly. I am so thankful for my church family and my pastors for their love and support. Before my mom went home to be with the Lord, my pastor, Pastor Michelle, was teaching on "The Importance of Maintaining Your Joy." I decided to go back and listen to those messages and just study about joy. (See links to the messages below.) What does Joy have to do with health? A lot!

Nehemiah 8:10 says: "The joy of the Lord is your strength!"

Joy is a supernatural weapon or force. When you choose to be joyful in the circumstance or situation, you are strengthening your spirit.

As I went through this situation with my mom, I had a choice. I can either get down and depressed, or I can be joyful and praise God that she is with Him dancing and rejoicing and that I WILL see her again.

I chose to be joyful. Now this does not mean I do not cry or I do not miss her, but I have to maintain my joy. If I let that joy slip, it opens the door to the enemy in that situation to try and put oppression or depression on me.

Oppression and depression can open the door to sickness because, if you are down and depressed, you have no fight in you. But praise God, we are redeemed from depression and oppression.

Keep your joy full and you will keep your strength. How do I keep my joy full? I find scriptures in the Bible about joy, peace, and strength. I speak those scriptures over myself.

Praising and thanking God can make you joyful.

Try it. Say:

"Thank you, Lord, for you are good and your mercy endures forever. I praise your mighty name. It pleases you to give me strength.

Thank you that I am the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. Everything my hands touches prospers. I will live days of heaven on earth. I will have a long, healthy, and satisfying life!"

That will stir you up, and you will have your spirit jumping for joy. Praise and Thanksgiving can open the door to health.

I encourage you today to maintain your joy so that your strength is full!
